Goose Fair has become the latest casualty of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Nottingham City Council announced this afternoon that the annual fair will not be taking place this year.
The event was due to be held on Forest Recreation Ground from Wednesday 30 September to Sunday 4 October.
Although current Government regulations allow fairground rides and attractions to be open, the city council’s events team and the Showmen’s Guild felt that it would have been challenging to provide a safe environment while allowing for social distancing.

The five-day event normally attracts over 420,000 visitors and is also a busy time for NCT and NET.
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “The annual Goose Fair is Nottingham’s iconic event and making a decision to cancel this year due to coronavirus is something that the council does not take lightly.”
He added: “We know how well-loved the event is and what a boost it would have been for morale in the city. Unfortunately, due to its scale and popularity, in the end this was not possible.”

The fair has only ever been cancelled on eight occasions previously during its 700-year history.
Other popular events to have been cancelled due to the pandemic include the Riverside Festival, The Nottingham Beach and Splendour.
