After a busy start Nottingham City Council announced this evening that this years Christmas Market has been cancelled.
Hundreds of people descended on the Old Market Square on Saturday afternoon, which lead to concerns regarding social distancing.
Despite the organisers putting in place a wide range of measures which followed the tier 3 guidance in regards to outdoor markets, crowds of shoppers made getting around the Old Market Square difficult, with local people taking to social media to air their concerns.

In a joint statement Nottingham City Council and the Mellors Group said: "We know this will be very disappointing for many local people who were looking forward to visiting and for the stall holders, many of them local, for whom this was a vital opportunity to trade in what has been an incredibly difficult year.
We wanted the market to help support the local economy and bring some festive cheer by bringing people into the city centre in a safe, managed way as part of the reopening of non-essential retail after the national lockdown."
Broxtowe Borough Council have also cancelled planned Christmas Markets in Stapleford and Beeston.
