Goosey drops in on the Old Market Square for a special visit.

Goosey - the Goose Fair goose will be on display in the Old Market Square for the next five days.

Goosey would normally be found at this time of year on the Goose Fair roundabout on Mansfield Road, however, the event was cancelled last month due to Coronavirus, Goosey fans will not miss out of seeing their favourite goose this year.

It is only the ninth time that Goose Fair has been cancelled in its 700 year history.

To mark what would have been the launch of 729th Goose Fair, Nottingham City Council are encouraging people to come and have a look at the famous landmark close up.

People are encouraged to have a selfie with Goosey and post them on social media using the hashtags ##Honk and #IMetGoosey.

On Thursday at noon, the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Rosemary Healy, will be joined by Town Crier, Tom Huggon, and members of the Showmen’s Guild for the traditional ringing of the Goose Fair bell.

She added: "Moving Goosey to Old Market Square from her normal spot on the Mansfield Road roundabout is a small thing, but hopefully lots of people will enjoy seeing her up close and posing for a picture."

In August, Nottingham City Council decided that the huge numbers of people expected at Goose Fair would provide challenging conditions to allow for social distancing, in addition to the extra pressures that would be put on local transport.
